Looks like as if I found someone of my colleges at work that shares the same passion: Retrogames, especially 90s video games. Today he brought a big box in his car. Some of its content were large game collection boxes, which I didn’t find interesting. Sure, there are 10 games inside one big box, which are hard to find as single peace but its not the same as one initial release isn’t it? Three treasures crossed my eyes:
One is Activations in 1998 released Battlezone remake (german language version). A combination of real-time strategy and first-person driver/shooter. I remember two trailers on its gamedisc for two other games I’m still missing today: The first trailer shows the cool road-movie racing game Interstate 76. The second trailer presents the Mechwarrior clone Heavy Gear. Together three games I loved so much to play as teenager, even though they weren’t the big hits back in the day. The Battlezone box includes all the sweet gimmicks like reference cards, a good old large manual and topmost a PC Dashboard card for the Saltek PC Dashboard.
The second game I rescued from being sold somewhere else is once again Earth 2140 (read this and that). But this time it is sealed/unopened, got zero damages and the english language version. The promotion on top of the front side of the box made me smile: “Stunning 16 bit graphics!” Honest, I am not a collector but I dare somehow to open it. As you know I purchased it already, even though its just the german language version. But when can I say that I have one unopened game box from the late 90s in top condition! ;)
The third game… well Pool of Radiance Collectors Edition sealed/unopened in undamaged condition, worth over $150! He didn’t want to sell it to me. But I might have a chance to exchange the game for some parts of my Dreamcast. I honestly don’t need the second controller, rumble-pack, keyboard and the five games. He can have it!
