System Shock 2: A game that changed the world but failed commercial success
My best friend shared some of his games with me. It was a big bunch of Cd cases on the top of my table. I had some work to do and didn’t checked what games there are. Some days later, oh well it was one of these boring afternoons after school as I wanted to calm down a little bit from my schoolwork. I saw the big tower of cases on my desk again and checked what games he gave to me. On the half way through I’ve read an interesting title. System Shock 2? Didn’t I played a game with a similar title already some years ago? You need to know, it was the year 1999 and I didn’t had access to the world wide web yet. But I did remember! System Shock, the game I always started playing but never finished in all these years since it was too scary for me as a child. Well, maybe this second game might be less scary and more enjoyable. And so I started the installation process. What now follows is a description about my first hours with the game. Very close and very personal!

Day 29 – A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving
Honestly, the game I thought I wouldn’t like but ended up loving is one of the greatest franchises of the 90s and later with an female protagonist. The true story of me with the game begins with part 2 of the franchise, which I purchased for a very low prince at the supermarket. As I put the game into my CD-ROM drive and installed it on my computer, I never expected it to be an endless week long experience of gaming. I loved the game so much that I had to buy the first part of it as soon as I found it. I got the directors cut for Tomb Raider on PC and started playing.
Day 28 – Favorite game developer
Read my article: Looking Glass Studios: Don’t forget to look through the looking glass! instead.
Day 27 – Most epic scene ever
There is one game that deserves the word epic more than others: God of War. I had my most epic scene ever of the year 2010 in God of War 3. Shit, No! The entire game is my most epic scene ever. TheOneAndOnlyDANTE arranged the battle of Kratos vs. Hercules in a very nice video. Enjoy!
Day 26 – Best voice acting
Voice acting in video games is a thing that wasn’t very popular over the years but the quality and effort of voice actors for virtual characters increased very well with every decade that gone by. Especially games of the early 90s suffered by the limited technology tru soundcards for computers or soundchips for consoles. If you’re new to gaming, then you may laugh about the fact that Duke Nukem’s “I’m Back” from 1993 for example, was a big hit for some gamers ears. Nothing compared to the badly digitalized sentences of Wolfenstein 3D guards one year earlier that made gamers smile and laugh instead. You see that voice acting in early video games got a very different quality, depending on companies and their posibilities or knowledge of sound design. Enough talk about the past, for this article I have picked a more modern generation of video gaming at the end of the 90s.
Day 23 – Game you think had the best graphics or art style
My game with the best graphics or art style is a remake of a very successful first part of a franchise that perfected the survival horror genre introduced by Alone in Dark three years later in 1995. In 2002, Nintendo and Capcom signed a contract for three exclusive titles for Nintendo’s new gaming system the Nintendo Gamecube. Two of these games, the first with the additional title Zero and the one with the number 4 in it’s name are both good games, but never reached the depth of the third exclusive title for the system. As I played Resident Evil for Gamecube, I was overwhelmed by it’s look. It really locked better as I have expected. It looks better than any screen shot or video on the internet ever can deliver.
